The next step after the hearing will be the presiding judge sharing a proposed decision to ABC Acting Director Ramona Prieto. The hearings are part of a multistep application process that casino management must go through in order to get an ABC-approved alcoholic beverage license. Judge John Lewis left it up to four groups of attorneys - those representing the casino, the ABC, San Diego County and the Jamul committee - to find three days they would all be free. More than 180 letter writers were invited to attend the licensing hearings. In the past year, more than 1,000 residents of Jamul sent letters of protest to the ABC, many of them stating that the addition of casino patrons who have been drinking is dangerous.
